How to choose the right size for your dining table
Share
Choosing the right size table is essential for having a functional and practical space every day. Do you often have guests over for meals? Do you play board games? How much space is available in the dining room? How will the chairs be arranged?
In short, there are many questions to consider, but to begin, let's start with the standards. First, the length of your table. The standard is to have 24 inches of clearance for each person seated. This takes into account the width of the chairs, but also the armrests.
Here is a small table to help you choose the dimensions of your table:

What table width should I choose?
On average, the tables we make are between 38 and 42 inches wide. If your space isn't too limited, we always recommend going a little wider to allow room in the middle for your dishes.
How much space should there be between a table and a wall?
There must be a clearance of at least 36 inches | A distance of 91.4 cm must be maintained between the edge of the table and any wall or other objects near the table. A clearance of 48 inches | 122 cm is recommended for maximum flexibility and movement.
How much space should be left between a chair and a dining room table?
A depth of 18” | 46 cm for moving and using dining chairs should be provided around dining tables.
Are round tables more space-efficient than square tables?
Round tables are generally more space-efficient than square or rectangular tables because their lack of corners means they take up less room. However, if your space is limited in width, a rectangular table is a better choice.
And what about the extensions?
This is probably the best option to consider if you have limited space but want enough room to entertain comfortably once in a while. The extensions are usually between 8 and 12 inches, so by adding two extensions to each end, you greatly increase your capacity to comfortably host your guests.
